2007 National Day of Interfaith Service

On April 22, 2007, the three groups of Walking the Walk gathered together to celebrate the second annual National Day of Interfaith Service hosted by the Interfaith Center. On this day, over 100 people—participants of Walking the Walk, their friends not involved in the program, and other community members—came together for the first time to spend an afternoon doing service and learning from each other. The day included a number of activities and was a great success with many people engaging with each other about the very goals set by Walking the Walk.

The itinerary of the day included:

  • An opening session in which several participants of Walking the Walk reflected publicly on their experiences in the program;
  • Service projects such as packaging breakfast bags for homebound elderly, making baby blankets for babies of incarcerated mothers, and gardening;
  • Reflection through the arts workshops in which participants reflected through poetry, collage, and drama.

Partners for the second annual National Day of Interfaith Service included:

From our participants

You never know where you will go
and who might just say hello.
It does not hurt to smile
even just after a little while.
Sometimes a simple greeting may mean so much more
even if you have never met them before.
And who may even know
But a new friendship could possibly grow.
