Citywide Candlelight Ceremony Memorializes Loved Ones Lost To Violence

WHAT: As Philadelphia prepares to welcome in 2009, families, loved ones, and friends of 2008's 322 homicide victims will pause to reflect upon lives lost to senseless violence. Joining them will be many others who have lost loved ones to violence, standing together with Mothers In Charge to say, "Enough is enough! Let's unite for peace and hope in 2009!"

CVS Pharmacies and Shoprite Markets, in partnership with Mothers In Charge will provide certificates for a "Holiday We Care Gift Card" for families in attendance who lost loved ones to violence in 2008.

WHERE: Girard College, 2101 S. College St. Philadelphia, 19121 (21st and Girard).

WHEN: Saturday, December 27, 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

ABOUT MOTHERS IN CHARGE: Mothers In Charge is an organization of impassioned mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and sisters, many of whom have lost loved ones to violence. These women are committed every day in working towards saving lives and making our communities safe. Mothers In Charge aims to reducing the rate of violent crimes in our communities, educating communities on how violence impacts families, and providing counseling and workshops that offer intervention training focusing on teaching alternatives to violence. Please come out and support the sisters of Alpha Nu Omega Sorority, Inc second annual prayer luncheon. Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. is purposed to present a Christian Alternative to the students and/or faculty on college/university campuses, to minister to the needs of the whole person (spirit, soul and body), and to promote an attitude of academic excellence among its members.
