Arts & Spirituality Center

The Arts & Spirituality Center  empowers and transforms individuals and communities through spiritual and creative expression, in partnership with a broad range of multicultural groups in the Philadelphia area.  As a non-sectarian organization, the Arts & Spirituality Center serves people of all faiths as well as those not religiously affiliated, nurturing the life-giving resources and values that strengthen the human spirit and build the capacity for change. 

To expand programmatic and administrative resources, the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia has developed a unique alliance with the Arts & Spirituality Center that includes sharing office space, equipment and administrative support as well as exchanging programmatic gifts. Artists/educators affiliated with the Arts & Spirituality Center have added creative dimensions to the Interfaith Center’s Walking the Walk and Alternative Spring Break programs.  Likewise, the Interfaith Center  developed a youth dialogue component for the MasterPeace project in Kensington South, and helped support the religious and cultural diversity of the Arts & Spirituality Center’s programs.

Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions

The Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions is an international organization that seeks to bring together people from different religious traditions in order to create a peaceful, just and sustainable world.

The Interfaith Center was privileged to send multi-faith leadership teams to the Parliament’s Goldin Institute for International Partnership and Peace in Spain (2004) and Taiwan (2005). The Center also sent a leadership team to the Parliament of the World Religions in Barcelona, Spain (2004), an international interreligious gathering that attracted more than 7,000 participants. The opportunity to participate in workshops on global issues and meet religious leaders who are members of interfaith centers and coalitions around the world greatly enriched and inspired the work and vision of the Interfaith Council of Greater Philadelphia.

Interfaith Youth Core

The Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) is a Chicago-based organization that promotes religious pluralism specifically to America’s youth. The IFYC offers education and training for organizations across the country and provides networking opportunities for leaders who are committed to America’s young people.

In the fall of 2005, the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia launched Walking the Walk, a program inspired by the IFYC. Dr. Eboo Patel, Director of IFYC, came to Philadelphia to give the keynote address at the public launch of Walking the Walk. In addition, the Interfaith Center attends the IFYC’s annual training event and coordinates Philadelphia’s participation in the National Day of Interfaith Youth Service, a day sponsored by the IFYC. Furthermore, the Interfaith Center is proud to be working jointly with the IFYC as part of the federally-funded Inspired to Serve initiative.

Medical Missions Sisters

Medical Mission Sisters is a community of Sisters and Associates whose mission is to be a healing presence at the heart of a wounded world. From 23 nations, the Sisters serve among those made poor in 19 countries on 5 continents. Their ministries include: health care and education, wholeness and healing programs, the development of women, work for justice, and worship and spirituality.

Maria Hornung, a Medical Mission Sister, lives out this mission as the Interfaith Center's Coordinator for Interfaith Education. While the Interfaith Center seeks support for this position, Medical Mission Sisters generously supports Maria to do this work. We are grateful for this partnership with Medical Mission Sisters.

Neighborhood Interfaith Movement

Neighborhood Interfaith Movement (NIM), an alliance of 60 congregations and faith-based partners, has worked since 1969 to "build a more just and sensitive community through advocacy and service." NIM provides vital services to families and older adults in Philadelphia as well as opportunities for interfaith action.

NIM is partnering with the Interfaith Center to offer to Northwest Philadelphia congregations the Interfaith Center’s program Walking the Walk. Since 2006-07, the Northwest Philadelphia Walking the Walk group has engaged groups of 20 teens from neighborhood churches, mosques and synagogues in a year-long program of dialogue, learning and service to their community.

Philadelphia Cathedral

Welcoming, accepting, and diverse, the Cathedral of the Diocese of Pennsylvania is part of the Episcopal Church, U.S.A., within the Anglican Communion. Pennsylvania is the oldest diocese in the United States (1784), with one of its newest cathedral foundations (1992).

The Cathedral offers a wonderful home for the Interfaith Center located ten blocks due west of downtown, in University City and occupies a key location between academia (the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University) and the inner city, with bustling multi-cultural neighborhoods on its doorstep. The Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia is grateful to the Cathedral for opening its doors to our work.

Religions for Peace (USA)

Religions for Peace (USA) is one of 55 chapters of the world's largest representative interreligious organization, the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP). Part of a rapidly expanding global interfaith movement, Religions for Peace works closely with leaders from the broadest range of religious organizations in the country and cooperatively with other interfaith and civic society organizations. It creates multi-religious partnerships that mobilize the moral and social resources of religious people to address their shared challenges.

The Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia was one of three cities nationwide to receive a grant in 2005 from Religions for Peace (USA) to help establish an Interreligious Leaders Council in Philadelphia, made possible by Rockefeller Foundation funds.

Search Institute

The Search Institute is a nonprofit organization that provides resources for youth and community development. It seeks to provide leadership and knowledge to promote healthy communities and children.

In 2006, the Search Institute, along with the Interfaith Youth Core, secured funding from the federally-run Corporation for National Community Service. With this funding, the organizations launched the Inspired to Serve, a project that expands the interfaith youth service-learning movement across the country. The Interfaith Center is honored to represent Philadelphia as one of the four pilot cities selected to participate in Inspired to Serve. In addition, the Search Institute’s expertise in asset-based youth development is greatly benefiting the Center’s Walking the Walk program.
